AI on a phone used to mean buying a flagship. Samsung is now pushing that idea down the price ladder. On October 30, 2026, Samsung Electronics launched the Galaxy A18 LTE in South Korea, a budget LTE smartphone built around everyday AI search: Google's Gemini assistant and Circle to Search. The message is simple — you should not need a premium phone to ask your phone a question in plain language, or to search for something you see on screen.
What Samsung announced
The Galaxy A18 LTE went on sale in Korea on October 30 through the country's three mobile carriers and as an unlocked model, sold at Samsung Store, Samsung.com, carrier stores and open marketplaces. It comes in three colours — black, silver and light blue — and is priced at 425,700 won, roughly $320. Reports note the price sits in the 400,000-won range, a step up from the previous model that local coverage links to rising memory prices, but still firmly in budget territory. This is a Korea launch for now; Samsung has not announced pricing or availability for other markets in these reports.
The AI features that matter
The headline features are Google's Gemini and Circle to Search. With Gemini, users can search for information and ask everyday questions in natural, conversational language — for example asking about travel plans or packing lists, as Korean coverage describes. If you are new to Google's assistant, our beginner's guide to using Gemini explains how it works in plain terms. Circle to Search works differently: you draw a circle around an image, text or object on the screen to look up related information, without typing a query or switching apps. That is useful for identifying places and objects in videos, or finding out more about something in a photo. It is the same practical idea behind Google's newest flagship AI — we covered how Gemini 4 Carbon pushes AI further at the top end — now arriving in a far cheaper handset.
Screen, battery and camera
Beyond AI, the A18 LTE is built for everyday use. It has a 169.1 mm (6.7-inch) FHD+ Super AMOLED display, so videos and photos look clear on a large screen. The battery is 5,000mAh, sized for a full day of streaming, browsing and messaging. The camera setup is led by a 50-megapixel camera, according to Korean reports. The phone is 7.7 mm thick, weighs 196 g, and carries IP64-rated dust and water resistance — protection against dust and splashes, not full waterproofing.
Price, colours and where to buy
To recap the buying details: 425,700 won in Korea, in black, silver or light blue, through SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ as carrier models and as an unlocked model. Samsung Store, Samsung.com and carrier online and offline stores are listed as sales channels. If you are weighing a budget phone against a flagship, the comparison that matters is not just the camera or the chip — it is whether the AI tools you will actually use every day are included. Our comparison of ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini can help you judge which assistant style suits you, whichever phone you end up with.
Why a budget AI phone matters
This launch matters because it changes who gets AI first. Flagship AI features usually arrive at the top and trickle down years later. Here, Gemini and Circle to Search — the two most practical, everyday AI search tools — are the selling point of a budget phone on day one. For students and budget-conscious buyers, that is a real shift: the same tools covered in our round-up of the best free AI tools for students are now baked into an affordable handset. The trade-off, as always with budget phones, is that the full Galaxy AI suite remains restricted to Samsung's S, Z and Tab S flagships, according to local coverage — but the core search features are here.
Samsung's Galaxy A18 LTE does not try to be the most powerful phone of 2026. It tries to be the most useful phone for its price — a big screen, a big battery, and AI search that works the way people actually ask questions. Would you switch to a budget phone if it had Gemini and Circle to Search, or do you still want a flagship for the full AI suite? Tell us in the comments.
